Gilbert Mayor Jenn Daniels welcomed news about Arizona's "Testing Blitz" efforts to increase COVID-19 testing around the state.

"We have all been asking for this for weeks," Daniels said in her biweekly video message of April 28. "So we're glad to see their finally increasing the quantity of testing."

Daniels also encouraged people to reach out to loved ones in long-term care facilities as those have the highest rates of illness.

Daniels closed by encouraging participation in Gilbert Kindness Week.

"Do a random act of kindness for a stranger and find a way to help one another—especially important this time of year and in this crisis," Daniels said.

AHCCCS payments

The Arizona Health Care Cost Containment System, Arizona’s Medicaid agency, is advancing more than $41 million in scheduled payments to hospitals, primary care providers, behavioral health outpatient providers, and justice clinic providers who participate in the agency’s Targeted Investments program, according to a news release from Gov. Doug Ducey.

“Arizona’s hospitals, doctors and behavioral health professionals have supported those in need during the COVID-19 health emergency and well before,” Ducey said in the release. “AHCCCS is providing these payments ahead of schedule so we can ensure these health care providers and professionals can continue to serve Arizonans without interruption. My thanks to frontline workers and health care professionals across the state working around the clock to protect public health and safety.”

Case count

The six ZIP codes that serve Gilbert have 171 confirmed cases of COVID-19, according to data from the Arizona Department of Health Services. That is up four from the previous day.
