City of Chandler now accepting nominations for Mayor’s Neighborhood Excellence Awards

Chandler’s Neighborhood Resources Department is now accepting nominations for the Mayor’s Neighborhood Excellence Awards, according to a city press release. The awards recognize communities with a commitment to neighborhood involvement and encouraging leadership.

“Strong neighborhoods with active and engaged leaders are a huge part of why our city remains safe, clean and beautiful,” Chandler Mayor Kevin Hartke said in a release.

There are two categories communities can be nominated for: Mayor’s Choice Awards and People’s Choice Awards. Nomination forms are available on the city’s website and must be submitted by 5 p.m. Aug. 16, according to the city.

Crime prevention officers, neighborhood resources staff and the city’s Neighborhood Advisory Committee will determine finalists for each category. Residents can begin voting for the People’s Choice Awards at 8 a.m. Aug. 23. Voting will continue through 5 p.m. Sept. 13.

Neighborhood winners will receive their choice of two of the following: first or second place in the 2019 Getting Arizona Involved in Neighborhoods event lottery, a bounce house or a canopy; $50 for supplies; or a member or members of Chandler City Council to attend their neighborhood GAIN event, according to the nomination form.

Winners of the awards will be announced at the 2019 GAIN kickoff event Sept. 21 at the Chandler Police Department.
