Each year the city, in partnership with nonprofit For Our City-Chandler, hosts the operation to help local students in need—giving students backpacks filled with essential school supplies.
This year, there will be four drive-thru locations for students to collect their free backpacks, according to the release. In addition to backpacks, families will receive information on community resources and programs to assist families in need. Also, Title I school counselors will receive donations of shoes, socks and underwear to have on hand for families in need throughout the school year, according to the release.
The event is from 8-10 a.m., and an estimated 2,500 Chandler families and students are expected to attend. Invitations to those families and students have been coordinated in advance with the local districts, according to the release.
