The Chandler City Council approved a master plan update for the Chandler Municipal Airport during a meeting April 22.

The master plan update process began in the fall of 2019 and serves as a recommendation for improvements that need to be made at the airport. In the plan approved April 22 is a potential expansion of the south runway by 680 feet from 4,870 feet to 5,550 feet. This improvement would allow the same size and type of aircraft currently using the airport in cooler months to use the airport year-round, according to the master plan.

The master plan update also includes a capital improvement program of about $100 million in public and private investment over the next 20 years; 44% of those costs are planned for grant funding from the Federal Aviation Administration and the Arizona Department of Transportation, according to the plan.

The master plan was approved unanimously by council.
