Community member Steena Murray’s contributions to the city were put on center stage at a Chandler USD meeting on March 9, when board members voted unanimously to name the Chandler Center for the Arts main stage after the Chandler native.

The resolution is pending approval from the Chandler City Council.

Murray’s donations to the Chandler Cultural Foundation “make up the largest continuous gift from an individual philanthropist in their history,” according to the resolution. She currently serves as the treasurer of the Chandler Cultural Foundation.

Murray’s financial contributions also allowed 12,870 youth to participate in youth arts programs Vision Kids and Connecting Kids in the last decade, according to the document.

Murray was not present at the CUSD meeting to acknowledge the honor in person, but, according to the document, Murray is an avid supporter of the arts and has attended almost every show at the Chandler Center for the Arts.

The main stage is one of three performance spaces at the arts center and has 1,500 seats. The Center is located in downtown Chandler, and features performances from talent that includes nationally recognized performers and local students in Chandler USD.
