Craig Gilbert, the assistant superintendent of secondary education for the district, walked the board through the proposed changes.
The recommendation would move Arizona College Prep Erie to the new, unnamed school—moving current students and staff with it—and would assign a section of students currently in the Perry High School attendance boundary to the new school beginning with the 2021-22 school year. The administration is also recommending moving a section of students from Perry High School to Basha High School and a portion of students from Hamilton High School to Chandler High School. These changes would not affect students currently enrolled in any of the high schools, but it would affect incoming eighth graders, Gilbert said.
The new high school, located at Gilbert and Brooks Farm roads, will open with grades nine through 12 in the 2021-22 school year, Gilbert said, and all current freshmen through junior students at ACP Erie would attend the new high school in the 2021-22 school year, Gilbert said.
