Chandler USD had reported 24 COVID-19 cases across its 45 schools as of Oct. 23, according to data from the district.

Arizona College Prep Erie Campus, Andersen Elementary School, Basha High School Accelerate Middle School, Bogle Junior High School, Chandler High School, Payne Junior High School, Santan Junior High School and Shumway Leadership Academy have all reported one case each, according to the district. Perry High School has six confirmed COVID-19 cases, Hamilton High School has three confirmed cases and Casteel High School has five confirmed cases, making the three schools each have an "outbreak," which is defined by the Maricopa County Department of Public Health as a school site with more than two confirmed cases.

Chandler USD spokesperson Terry Locke said the district is being careful not to provide identifiable information on individuals. Locke said people have had to quarantine as a result of the cases at the high school campuses. Locke said 140 people were quarantined due to the cases at Casteel, 36 were quarantined due to the cases at Perry and 41 were quarantined as a result of the cases at Hamilton.

Chandler USD junior high and high schools went back to in-person learning Oct. 13 after spending the first quarter learning remotely. Elementary school students in the district returned in late September in a staggered approach. Students and staff are required to wear masks while on campus, and social distancing and enhanced sanitizing protocols have been put in place districtwide.

"It’s important that students, staff and parents collaborate to ensure safety," Superintendent Camille Casteel said. "This includes staying home when not feeling well, reporting cases to the schools and employing safety precautions, including social distancing, wearing masks and washing hands properly."

The Maricopa County Department of Public Health reported Oct. 23 that 31 schools in the county had active outbreaks. The county also reported 137 total cases tied to schools: 96 in students and 41 in staff.

Here is a breakdown of cases across Chandler USD.
