For nearly 42 years, Brindley’s Music Center has been a one-stop-shop for music lovers in Chandler. Owner Bruce Brindley started working for his parents at Brindley’s when he was a sophomore in high school and has called the business home ever since.

“It’s a family business,” Brindley said. “There’s always a real family vibe in here.”

Brindley said there is a strong sense of community inside the music center, noting that he has seen a couple generations of families patronize the business for rentals, repairs, lessons, sheet music and accessories.

Brindley’s parents, Bill and Eileen, started the business in 1977, and in 1987, Brindley and his sister Sandy Heistand purchased the business from their parents. At that time, the business occupied a different space in downtown Chandler, but in the late ‘90s, it was moved to its current location on Arizona Avenue. In January, Heistand stepped down from her ownership role, leaving the business  in Brindley’s hands.

“It’s a pretty cool journey,” Brindley said. “We are just trying to see where we fit now in this whole world. We are finding ways through service and lessons.”

The business has seen plenty of change in its four decades of operation. It now has a stage in a room that was once

dedicated to rows and rows of sheet music. The stage serves as a place for students who receive lessons to have recitals, Brindley said.

“It’s really cool to see some of these students have their very first performances here,” Brindley said.

Brindley said he has always had a passion for music, but he said it is the repair work he often enjoys the most.

“I love getting stuff into the hands of people who are artists,” Brindley said.

Brindley specializes in orchestra instrument and guitar repairs and spends a great deal of his time on the floor of the shop chatting with customers or working on repairs.

“I know when people come in, they are probably second-generation people coming in, and they want us around,” Brindley said. “They still give us business because I think, in general, people like us being here. I sure do.”
