The Spring Creek Greenway Nature Center on Riley Fuzzel Road closed after flooding during Hurricane Harvey in late August 2017 but reopened Aug. 3 after renovations that included a new outdoor deck area and community room.

The building was flooded with 4 feet of water in 2017, causing major damage to the 11,000-square-foot facility, Montgomery County Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack said after the reopening.

The newly renovated center includes natural specimens such as minerals, bones and taxidermy as well as many live animals. Venomous and nonvenomous snakes are housed in aquariums as well as lizards, fish, amphibians and tarantulas. It also includes a children’s area with educational materials, a community room available for public rental, and a deck area with tables and seating.
