Plano planning officials have recommended the city review its development guidelines for more than a dozen major intersections, rejecting a wholesale repeal of the city’s comprehensive development plan.

The Plano Planning and Zoning Commission on Oct. 7 voted against an effort to repeal the Plano Tomorrow plan and revert to the standards that were in effect before its adoption in 2015.

The vote, which is nonbinding, serves as a recommendation to Plano City Council, which has the final authority to review the plan and amend or even repeal it, Planning Director Christina Day said after the meeting.

As part of the same motion, commissioners advised the city staff to begin a review of the development standards in the city’s various neighborhood centers at major intersections along Coit Road, Independence Parkway, Custer Road and Alma Road.

The recommendation to deny the plan's repeal was the result of an effort by two Plano City Council members who asked for the item to be placed on a joint meeting agenda in July. Plano planning and zoning commissioners tabled the item at the time, saying they were not provided enough time to review the plan.
