Communities in the Katy and Fulshear areas will participate in National Night Out on Oct. 1. The evening is dedicated to promoting police and community partnerships, according to the National Night Out website.

The city of Katy's event will be held from 5-9 p.m. at Katy City Park, 5611 Gardenia Lane, Katy. Activities include music, a movie, giveaways and snacks, such as hot dogs, popcorn and snow cones. First responders from the Katy Police Department and Katy Fire Department will be available to meet with residents.

Both Harris County Emergency Service District No. 48 and Fulshear Police Department will stop by community parties held Oct. 1 to promote safety, decrease crime and strengthen community relations, according to the entities' respective Facebook pages.

Katy and Fulshear communities will join more than 16,000 communities across all 50 states participating in National Night Out activities, according to the organization's website. While National Night Out is celebrated nationwide on the first Tuesday of August, Texas opts to observe the day on the first Tuesday of October.
