Co-owners Steve and Michelle Prochaska founded Stevie’s Diner as an homage to their love of all things vintage.

From a jukebox to a retro Pac-Man arcade game, the restaurant aims to give diners a blast from the 1960s-1980s. Lining the walls are toys and album covers popular during those decades.

Since the restaurant’s opening in July 2011, customers have also brought in items that have added to the diner’s decor.

“The dining room is almost like a museum of old stuff, whether it’s toys or old housewares or an old typewriter,” Michelle said. “It’s preserving these things and keeping them from getting thrown away.”

Even the menu includes vintage dishes like the Elvis sandwich, made with peanut butter, honey, bananas and bacon. The restaurant also offers specials featuring foods popular during that era, including MoonPies and RC Cola.

Steve and Michelle were high school sweethearts in the early 2000s before Michelle’s family moved to Florida. They reunited in 2007 and married in 2015 after opening the diner.

Michelle works outside of the diner as a project manager for a consulting company. She also oversees administrative work for the restaurant, including payroll and filing.

Steve has experience in the restaurant business, having worked at the Snooty Pig in Keller before opening Stevie’s Diner. He works in the kitchen, cooking and making sure the diner runs smoothly.

Their shared background and teamwork are two of the factors that have made the diner successful, Michelle said.

“We’ve always worked together very well, so where maybe another couple would absolutely not want to be sharing business with their significant other, I think it was just very natural,” she added. “We’re both very honest with each other and … I think that’s what makes any partnership successful.”
