Construction is expected to last at least through May 2020 and will require periodic—and possibly daily—lane closures, according to a spokesperson. Closures will occur outside of peak travel times.
The project includes new dedicated left-turn lanes along 45th Street in both directions; a second turn lane for vehicles turning left from Bull Creek Road onto 45th Street; radar signal technology, which will detect approaching vehicles and adjust signal timing to meet real-time demand; a protected bike lane along Bull Creek Road; a 12-foot-wide, multi-use path for pedestrians, to be called the Bull Creek Greenway; and a Capital Metro bus stop near the intersection of 45th Street and Bull Creek Road.
The changes were developed based on traffic studies conducted during The Grove’s planning phase, according to an Aug. 21 news release. When complete, they are expected to make the intersection operate more efficiently, with shorter wait times for drivers.
The Grove—which underwent a contentious, years-long zoning approval process before beginning construction earlier this year—will pay for the improvements.
