The trial over Grapevine’s short-term rentals ban has been delayed.

The case was scheduled to go to trial Aug. 5. But Grapevine filed an appeal claiming the court lacked the authority to hear the case. The city also claimed that even if the court granted the short-term rental owners’ request, the city’s enforcement of its own zoning ordinance would remain. That zoning ordinance prohibits short-term rentals.

“The City has been and continues to work to protect the integrity of its residential neighborhoods,” Grapevine City Attorney Matthew Boyle said in an email.

No new trial date has been set.

“[The] trial is put off for months, maybe more than year,” Patrick Sutton, an attorney for the residents, said in an email.

The city of Grapevine banned short-term rentals last September. Grapevine property owners sued the city not long after. A temporary injunction allows the residents to continue renting their properties, Sutton said.
