The Cool Springs Boulevard traffic light at the on-ramp for I-65 northbound will now feature a flashing yellow arrow light to help improve traffic flow beginning Aug. 14, according to a city press release.

"The Engineering Department studied and verified that in the current lane configuration, and with the adequate sight distance that is available, a Flashing Yellow Arrow [or FYA] for the left turn movement could be implemented to help improve traffic flow, reducing vehicle delay and emissions," the release said.

There will still be a protected left turn arrow at the intersection, but instead of being followed immediately by a red arrow, it will allow drivers a bit more time to turn left, according to the release.

Here is a breakdown of what each arrow will mean:

Green arrow: Drivers can proceed through the intersection to make a protected left turn.

Yellow arrow: The light will soon turn red.

Flashing yellow arrow: Left turns are allowed, however drivers must yield to oncoming traffic.

Red arrow: Traffic should be stopped and no turn may be taken.
