U.S. Rep. Kevin Brady, R-The Woodlands, selected Magnolia West High School senior Jake Hall as the winner of the 2019 Congressional Art Competition, according to a May 23 press release. This nationwide high school visual art competition recognizes artistic talent in the nation and in each congressional district, the release states.

Hall's piece, a painting titled "The Final Journey," will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol building for one year along with other congressional district winners. Hall painted the train carrying former President George H.W. Bush during his funeral procession through Magnolia on Dec. 6, 2018.

“This year's winning piece, 'The Final Journey,' is such a wonderful tribute to a beloved president and Texan, and I cannot wait for millions of visitors to see it when they visit our nation’s capital,” Brady said in the press release.

Sophie Wyatt, a senior at New Caney High School, was awarded second place, and Darcy Segura, a junior at Klein Oak High School, was awarded third place, the release said.

“The Congressional Art Competition is a big highlight of the year. I am always blown away by the talent and creativity that the young artists in our district display," Brady said in the release. "This competition is a great opportunity for high school artists in the 8th Congressional District of Texas to showcase their skill and a great way for me to bring a little bit of Texas to the U.S. Capitol."
