San Marcos CISD's Travis Elementary is seeking donations to help the school's fifth graders, all of whom qualify for free breakfast and lunch, to attend a two-night field trip to the YMCA Science and Nature Camp Twin Lakes in Cedar Park.

The field trip, which is geared toward giving students a chance to explore nature, science and the history of Texas natural resources, will take place April 22-24; it will cost $105 for each student to attend. According to the district, most of the fifth grade students will not be able to attend the field trip with out some assistance.

"Camping is an experience most of our scholars have never known, so their excitement is building," a March 5 letter from the district stated. "We are a Title [I] school, which qualified 100 percent of our population on free breakfast and lunch. Our families are still working on standing on their own after the many natural disasters affecting the San Marcos area. Your donation will lift the burden on many of our families."

Anyone who would like to talk to the district more about how they can help can send an email to [email protected].
