Bayou Land Conservancy was honored as a winner of the Houston-Galveston Area Council Parks and Natural Areas Award on Feb. 8, the conservancy announced in a Feb. 21 news release. No funding is associated with this award, according to H-GAC.

Bayou Land Conservancy won H-GAC's "under $500,000 category" for its Spring Creek Nature Trail project, which runs along Spring Creek in both Harris and Montgomery counties. The trail is part of a larger system of green space along the border between both counties, which is known as the Spring Creek Greenway.

The trail was mostly constructed by community volunteers and includes about 20 boardwalks and bridges, the news release stated.

“We are really proud of this community-led project because it provides a wilderness experience only miles from the fourth-largest city in the country," BLC Executive Director Jill Boullion stated. "Since we officially opened the trail in June of 2018, the community has embraced it and come to love and appreciate it."

The project has received funding from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department's Recreational Grants program and project partners Howard Hughes Corp., The Woodlands Township, Montgomery County Precinct 3 and Harris County Precinct 4.
