With the 2018 midterms in the past, here is a recap of notable results and other things to know this upcoming week in the Conroe and Montgomery areas.

1. Medicine college to break ground Friday

Sam Houston State University is hosting the official groundbreaking of its new College of Osteopathic Medicine in Conroe's Grand Central Park this Friday, Nov. 16 at 2 p.m. The college's plans feature a five-story, 216,000 square foot building situated on 7.3 acres. Phase one includes 108,000 square feet of construction with surface parking, and phase two plans will add another 108,000 square feet and a parking garage.

2. Montgomery County counts record number of votes
A record number of ballots were cast in the 2018 midterm election in Montgomery County, higher than any previous midterm turnout in county history. More than 190,000 county residents voted in the election, with 139,429 residents casting early ballots and 52,119 residents voting on Election Day, according to data from the Montgomery County Elections office.

3. Montgomery County judge seat remains Republican
Republican candidate Mark Keough won the Montgomery County Judge race against Democrat Jay Stittleburg, leading with 74.70 percent of votes. He will be sworn in Jan. 1, 2019.

4. Conroe ISD moves board meeting
The Conroe ISD board meeting, usually occurring on the third Tuesday of the month, is set for Tuesday, Nov. 13 at 6 p.m. due to the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday.
