A project to extend Huffmeister Road as a four-lane concrete pavement section from Hwy. 6 to West Road has hit a delay, Harris County officials said.

Originally set to be completed in May, the completion date was first pushed to July and is now on target to be finished by the first week of September, said Pamela Rocchi, director of the Harris County Precinct 4 Capital Improvement Projects Division. However, the portion of Huffmeister Road between Hwy. 6 and Common Crest Drive is scheduled to open within the next few weeks, she said.

"Regrettably, the contractor, Unitas Construction, experienced unforeseen utility conflicts that has impacted the construction schedule," Rocchi said.

The utility conflicts are being addressed by AT&T at the future intersection of West and Huffmeister roads, where two lanes of West Road have been closed during construction. Rocchi said AT&T's work is scheduled to be completed by July 23, at which point Unitas will be able to construct the new intersection.

The entire corridor is scheduled for completion in the first week of September, she said.
