Updated Monday, March 5th at 12:35 p.m.: This story was updated to include Alvin ISD.

In light of recent school shootings, superintendents John Kelly and Thad Roher reassured students and parents of safety measures within Pearland and Friendswood ISDs, respectively.

Pearland ISD will add safety and security measures to its campuses as a part of the 2016 bond project.

Improvements include adding a vestibule for visitors to be vetted, as well as cameras, control over the exterior doors and fences around the playgrounds at elementary schools.

Currently, the school deploys 11 Pearland police officers full time on its campuses in addition to unarmed security guards, Kelly said in his blog post.

The district does not currently allow teachers to carry firearms.

Friendswood ISD has two school resource officers in the district, and also shares a radio frequency with Friendswood Police Department, according to Roher.

The district also has security vestibules for entry, electronic door locking mechanisms and security campuses at all campuses and most facilities.

Alivn ISD has police officers on district campuses and has security vestibules on its campuses.

The district also has the "Let's Talk" page on its website, giving parents an outlet to voice concerns about safety and bullying anonymously. Individual campuses also have the "Campus Crime Stopper" programs which allow students to report safety concerns anonymously.
