With construction bids on the project approved, the county will make the payment per an interlocal agreement with Georgetown, will make the first payment now, as construction bids were approved.
A groundbreaking was held Sept. 8 for a new portion of the Southwest Bypass, which is being built in two segments.
Georgetown City Council voted July 25 to fund construction of a segment of the Southwest Bypass that will connect Hwy. 29 with I-35. (Courtesy City of Georgetown)[/caption]The first segment will be half-mile long from I-35 to west of the Georgetown Railroad and should be completed in Summer 2018. The second segment, which will connect the first segment to RM 2243 and Leander Road, is anticipated to be completed by early 2020.
The city of Georgetown is overseeing construction of an additional phase of the Southwest Bypass from FM 2243 to the Wolf Ranch Parkway extension, which in turn will connect to DB Wood Road. That section is expected to open in early 2018.
The county also voted to approve budget adjustments for several other 2013 bond road projects:
• Move $300,000 to the Forest North road project
• Move $50,000 to the Bagdad Road at CR 278 project
