1. Texas Health Plano named a Level II trauma facility


The Texas Department of State Health Services awarded the Level II trauma center designation to Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Plano, 6200 W. Parker Road, the company announced in a release on Monday. The designation allows the hospital to treat certain trauma patients who would have been sent to another Level II facility when Texas Health was still a Level III facility. Patients will now have 24-hour access to teams of surgeons, anesthesiologists and emergency department physicians, according to the release.

2. Vigil to be held for 8 victims slain in mass shooting


The Junior League of Collin County, along with city officials, are organizing a vigil for the eight victims of the mass shooting that took place on Sept. 10 in Plano. Organizers expect to hold the vigil at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at McCall Plaza, 998 E. 15th St., Plano.

3. Plano Balloon Festival returns


The 38th annual Plano Balloon Festival will be held at Oak Point Park and Nature Preserve, 2801 E. Spring Creek Parkway. Festival organizers expect to have about 40 balloons on site, with rides costing $25 per person. $5 festival admittance, $4 for seniors, free for children under 36 inches. www.planoballoonfest.org
