Here's what you need to know in San Marcos, Buda and Kyle to start your week:

1. San Marcos CISD board meets Monday

The San Marcos CISD board of trustees is slated to hear and possibly approve the schematic design of the new elementary school, to be located in the upcoming Trace neighborhood near Posey Road and I-35. The school’s construction will be funded using $30 million from the district’s $107.3 million bond, which was approved by voters in May. The Trace site includes 12 acres.



2. San Marcos, Buda expected to vote on budgets Tuesday

The city councils in San Marcos and Buda are slated to vote on $214 million and $31.82 million budgets, respectively. The new fiscal year will begin Oct. 1.

3. San Marcos seeks suggestions on how to spend $8.7 million in new federal disaster recovery funds

The city of San Marcos seeks feedback on how to spend additional federal grants on projects that will mitigate flooding around the city. The funding must be used to improve or fix damage done during the 2015 floods.

4. State Sen. Donna Campbell announces re-election campaign at luncheon in San Antonio on Thursday

State Sen. Donna Campbell, R-New Braunfels, announced Thursday she would be seeking re-election for District 25. The area she represents includes Kyle, San Marcos, parts of San Antonio and parts of Austin.

5. Voter registration law examined at high schools

The Texas Civil Rights Project released a report last week that found many high schools in the state are not complying with a more-than-30-year-old law that requires principals to request these forms for eligible students at least twice a year. Community Impact Newspaper has reached out to Hays CISD and San Marcos CISD for information on whether principals request the forms.
