Two open house meetings will give Round Rock residents the opportunity to learn more about and offer input on the rezoning process for Kalahari Resorts and Convention Center.
The meetings will be 6-8 p.m. May 9 and May 18, at Ridgeview Middle School, 2000 Via Sonoma Trail, Round Rock. City and Kalahari officials will attend both meetings to answer questions and listen to comments from residents.
Kalahari plans to invest at least $350 million in building a 975-room hotel with an indoor-outdoor water park, multiple restaurants and a day spa. The property will have a 200,000-square-foot convention center. The 351-acre tract is on the south side of Hwy. 79 east of Kenney Fort Boulevard, across from Old Settlers Park and Dell Diamond. The resort is expected to
employ 700 people.
Officials from the city of Round Rock said residents have expressed concerns about traffic, water usage and the effect on property values, all of which will be open to discussion at the meetings. The sessions are informal come-and-go meetings.
The target opening date for Kalahari is May 2020.
