Judge R.H. “Sandy” Bielstein, the first judge for Fort Bend County Court-at-Law No. 4, died of undisclosed causes at his Rosenberg home Sunday, April 2, according to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office. He was 72 years old. He was first elected to the bench in 2000 and elected to the Fort Bend County Court-at-Law No. 4 in 2001. His current term would have expired next year. The county did not say who would serve for the remainder of Bielstein’s term. The Fort Bend County court’s flags will be lowered to half-staff through Monday, April 10 in remembrance of Bielstein. “We all mourn the tragic loss of Judge Sandy Bielstein. Our flags will remain at half-mast throughout the week, or until the time he is interred,” said Fort Bend County Judge Robert Hebert on Tuesday. “He was an outstanding judge, a former Marine, peace officer, lawyer, and he worked for this county for many years, he will be missed.” Bielstein earned three Presidential Unit Citations for unit combat action during his service in the United States Marine Corp. According to the Houston Police Department, he joined the department June 2, 1969, and retired as a lieutenant on Jan. 3, 1990. While working as a full-time homicide lieutenant with HPD, Bielstein graduated from the South Texas College of Law in 1989 with honors. Clancy’s Public House, which Bielstein co-owned with his son Sean, will close April 9 in remembrance. In a post on the restaurant’s Facebook page, his son posted notification of the closure, along with his sentiments.
