WHAT WE REPORTED When it opens in 2018, The Independent is expected to become Austin’s tallest building at 58 stories high. Ground was broken on the building, which will contain 370 residential units and two floors of amenities, in 2016.

THE LATEST Crews recently poured concrete at Level 9, where an amenity deck will include a swimming pool.

WHAT'S NEXT The building will be topped out late this year or early next year. The percentage of housing units under contract hovers above 50 percent, the developer said.
