What we reported Business at Tony’s Italian Delicatessen is steady thanks to owners Hootie and Mary Trant’s hearty subs and warm customer service. In November 2016 the duo purchased the empty space next door to Tony’s with plans to expand the shop to offer more seating and dessert and merchandise space.

The latest At the end of December, the Trants debuted the Philly cheesesteak, which is made with hand-cut sirloin, grilled onions and peppers, and sharp American cheese. While the Philly has not been officially placed on the menu yet, Mary said those who have ordered it have raved about it. Because of its 5-star rating on Yelp, the restaurant was also named Yelp’s top place to eat in the U.S. for 2017 in mid-January.

What’s next The expansion of Tony’s has been delayed, but Mary said with installation of a new exit door planned for early January, she hopes the new portion of the restaurant will be approved and ready for business in early 2017.
