What we reported On April 28, the Lower Colorado River Authority submitted 31 routes to the Public Utilities Commission of Texas along which to build transmission lines between substations in Round Rock and Leander and substations in Cedar Park and Leander. The project was proposed to keep up with the growing need for electricity in Williamson County.
The latest Since requesting intervenor input, the PUC has received opposition to each of the proposed routes. In written testimony on the LCRA website, Christian Powell, a case manager with LCRA, said all intervenors in the docket oppose any route on or near their land. Starting in mid-December, initial briefs were filed with the PUC.
What’s next Reply briefs will be due in mid-January. An administrative law judge will review these briefs and any other pertinent information before writing a proposal for decision, which will recommend to the PUC commissioners whether the project should move forward, and if so, which route it should take. The PUC commissioners will then hold open meetings before identifying the final route for the transmission lines. LCRA Senior Communications Specialist Natalie Boehm said the PUC is expected to determine the project’s final route by May.
