The Katy City Council approved the emergency repairs of a city water well during its meeting Monday evening. The well, at 25815 Kingsland Boulevard, has had recent pump issues, said Councilman Gary Jones.
"The bottom line is, we've got to get it fixed." he said. "When you get a well that starts acting up, you never know what's going to happen."
All six wells in the city are looped together. If the pressure on one well goes down, all of the wells are affected, Jones said.
The well was repaired a year ago, but the fix was temporary, he said. Another city well now needs repairs but before the city can proceed, it must first address the Kingsland well. The city will immediately begin taking bids for the project.

President of the Katy Area Economic Development Council Lance LaCour also spoke to the city council about the KAEDC's new strategic plan, Katy 2020. He said the plan should be complete by December.
Within the next few years, he said the city can expect to see an increase in jobs as several companies open offices in the Katy area. He said the new Fed Ex Ground Hub will create about 2,000 jobs; security system supplier Pepperl + Fuchs will create 96 jobs; University of Houston's new campus create about 70 jobs; Members Choice Credit Union will create about 100 jobs; and when Shell relocates its headquarters to Katy, it will relocate about 3,500 jobs.
LaCour said the KAEDC projects the City of Katy will grow from its current population of 18,338 to 19,800 by 2021.
