Lone Star Family Health Center will launch a new mobile mammogram program next spring, giving more underinsured and uninsured women in Montgomery County access to affordable, potentially life-saving health care.
As a funded partner of Susan G. Komen, the health center has been providing free mammograms twice a month to women who qualify since 2012.
“Of the mammograms we have provided so far in 2016, only 11 percent of the women have been from these areas with high rates of late-stage breast cancer,” Communications and Outreach Manager Ashley Hamlin said. “Because we know that transportation is one of the main barriers to care, LSFHC has decided that the solution is to take the mammogram service to the women in need in our community. If these women cannot get to our clinic, we want to take the mammogram service to them.”
Until the new program launches next year, Lone Star Family Health Center will continue to offer free mammograms twice a month in Conroe.
