Here’s what you need to know this week if you live in Southwest Austin:

1. There’s one last chance to vote.


Election Day is Tuesday, so Travis County residents can find out what’s on the ballot and vote at local polling places. On Election Day, Community Impact Newspaper will transform its homepage, www.communityimpact.com, into an election headquarters.

2. Crews can break ground on SH 45 SW.


The clearing of the right-of-way for the SH 45 SW project is set to begin this week, weather permitting, following judges’ decision Friday to deny a motion for an emergency injunction that would stop the road’s construction. The 3.6-mile toll road that will connect Loop 1 with FM 1626 in Hays County. The Keep MoPac Local Coalition that filed a lawsuit against transportation authorities and filed for the emergency injunction plans to move forward with a final trial on the merits at the trial court level.

3. Area home sales are down slightly.


Single-family home sales in the Austin-Round Rock metropolitan statistical area, or MSA, are down by 1 percent, according to data from the most recent Texas Quarterly Housing report.

4. There's new beer in town.


St. Elmo Brewing Co. opens its new brick-and-mortar location in Austin to the public on Tuesday. The local brewpub offered a sneak peek of its facility last week before the grand opening.

5. The city has extended its deadline for expedited permitting process guidelines.


City staff has asked for more time to finalize draft guidelines for the new process, which would allow business owners to pay a fee to have the processing of their building permits expedited. A memo sent to the mayor and City Council Nov. 1 from Rodney Gonzales, director of the city of Austin’s Development Services Department, states the reason for the deadline extension from Nov. 1 to Dec. 1 is to allow the city’s law department time to complete research and analysis of the program, including research on the worker protection standards City Council approved in September.

6. Nutty Brown is sticking around.


The new Nutty Brown Cafe and Amphitheatre in Round Rock is expected to be ready by spring 2018. Until then, the venue is planning its final season of live music at the current Dripping Springs location. Nutty Brown Cafe announced in August 2015 plans to relocate from its current location at 12225 W. Hwy 290 in Dripping Springs to Round Rock because the original site is slated to become an H-E-B at a yet-to-determined date.
