With police relations becoming the topic of national conversation, Allen and Fairview police are reaching out to the public this week to bolster positive interactions with residents. Here's what's going on this week in the area:

National Night Out

Tuesday marks the area's participation in National Night Out, a series of neighborhood block parties to promote public interactions with police. The Fairview Town Council meeting scheduled for this week has been postponed to Oct. 11 to allow council members and residents to attend their National Night Out events. Allen-Fairview chamber luncheon

Allen Police Department Chief Brian Harvey on Tuesday will discuss "national events affecting law enforcement" and their impact on local enforcement efforts at the Allen-Fairview Chamber of Commerce's monthly luncheon. Finance site: Allen ranked 53rd in economic growth

Allen ranks 53rd of 515 in a study of America's fastest-growing cities released this week by personal-finance company WalletHub. The ranking was based on two evenly weighted categories: sociodemographics, where Allen ranked 53rd; and jobs and economy, where Allen ranked 93rd.
