The 15th anniversary of the Sept, 11, 2001, terrorist attacks will be recognized during a number of memorial services and events held in Central Texas and throughout the nation this weekend. Here are eight events happening the Greater Austin area:
Memorial service
The Austin Firefighters Association and the Austin Fire Department host an annual memorial service Sunday at Buford Tower, 201 West Cesar Chavez St., Austin. The ceremony includes the Austin Firefighter honor guard and appearances by local and state representatives. The names of the 343 firefighters who died on Sept. 11, 2001, are read. 7:30 a.m. Sunday,

Firefighter climb
Austin firefighters climb up and down the Pleasant Valley Drill Tower in full turnout gear, an air pack and a hose bundle until they have climbed approximately as many flights of stairs as the height of the World Trade Center. Music at the Capitol

15th Annual 9/11 Memorial
Nearly 200 business, community, government and law enforcement leaders are expected to attend the Greater Austin Crime Commission’s 9/11 memorial event, including Austin Police Chief Art Acevedo, Travis County Judge Sarah Eckhart, Hays County Sheriff Gary Cutler, Sunset Valley Police Chief Sean Ford, Westlake Hills Police Chief Scott Gerdes as well as elected state officials. San Marcos Fire Department memorial
The San Marcos Fire Department hosts a remembrance ceremony in front of City Hall on Sunday. Mayor Daniel Guerrero kicks off the ceremony with a short address. The San Marcos Fire Department Honor Guard raises the United States flag that was flying over City Hall on the morning of Sept. 11, 2001. After the flag raising, attendees recite the pledge of allegiance and the San Marcos Fire Department Bagpipers perform. Flowers are provided for attendees to place on the 9/11 Flower Memorial. 9/11 memorial ceremony and ride
