Residents of McKinney work year round to keep their city unique by nature and this fall, city officials are giving them another opportunity to do so through the Trinity Trash Bash.
The event, from 8-11:45 a.m. on Oct. 24, will bring civic groups, schools, businesses, homeowners associations, faith-based organizations, volunteers, families and the city of McKinney together to collect refuse throughout the city, focusing especially on waterways.
Teams of volunteers can register online, and liability forms—required of all participants—are available on the city website.
Team captains should have a list of names and shirt sizes for members to enter during the online registration process. Shirts will be available for the first 300 who register. Everyone else is encouraged to wear a shirt that represents their team.
Check-in will be from 8-9 a.m. in the parking lot of Bonnie Wenk Park, 2996 Virginia Parkway, near the amphitheater. Shirts, trash bags, gloves and a detailed map of a specific area to clean will be provided for teams.
According to city officials, the city’s storm water management department has identified locations throughout the city to clean.
Students can earn community service hours, and Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts can earn official T.R.E.E.S. (Trinity River Environmental Education Society) Trinity Trash Bash patches.
After collecting trash from 9:15–11:45 a.m., teams will gather at Bonnie Wenk Park for a celebratory picnic lunch at noon sponsored by Progressive Waste Solutions. Participants are asked to bring a blanket for the picnic.
