The city of Tomball and the Greater Tomball Area Chamber of Commerce are paying tribute to fallen Harris County Sheriff's Deputy Darren Goforth and other law enforcement officers.

Goforth, a 10-year veteran of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, was fatally shot Aug. 28 while filling up his patrol car at a gas station at the corner of Telge and West roads.

In support of law enforcement on Labor Day weekend, city officials have tied blue ribbons on the ornamental lamp posts along Main Street and the new sculpture of late volunteer station agent
Kenneth Walden at the Tomball Historic Depot Plaza.

In addition, Tomball Police Chief Billy Tidwell nominated Goforth Sept. 4 for the safety officer award presented by Woodforest National Bank at the chamber’s monthly luncheon.

During the luncheon, chamber Chairwoman Deborah Hroch read aloud Tidwell’s tribute letter to Goforth. Tidwell and other Tomball Police Department officers were in attendance at Goforth’s funeral service that was held Sept. 4 at Second Baptist Church in Houston.

Hroch said she encourages residents to donate to The 100 Club to support the Goforth family and others in need. The Houston-based nonprofit has provided more than $18 million to spouses and dependents of police officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty.
