The Hays County Central Appraisal District announced June 1 that some Hays County residents may be eligible to have their property reappraised after recent flooding events.
Those whose properties were affected by the floods will receive a new appraisal from the Hays CAD and will have 30 days to protest the value of their property. In a news release, Maria Contreras-Sweet, administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration, announced that in light of President Obama’s May 30 disaster declaration, low-interest federal disaster loans are now available to businesses and homeowners in Hays, Harris and Van Zandt counties. "The SBA is strongly committed to providing Texas with the most effective and customer-focused response possible and with access to federal disaster loans to help Texas businesses and residents affected by the severe storms, tornadoes, straight line winds and flooding,” Contreras-Sweet said in the release. “Getting our businesses and communities up and running after a disaster is our highest priority at SBA.” Businesses and nonprofit organizations may borrow up to $2 million to repair or replace damaged property or real estate. Homeowners may borrow up to $200,000 to replace or repair damaged real estate. Loans up to $40,000 are also available to homeowners looking to repair or replace personal property. Interest rates for the federal disaster loans can be as low as 4 percent for businesses, 2.625 for nonprofits, and 1.688 percent for homeowners and renters. Terms can last up to 30 years.
