The Montgomery County Road Bond Committee is close to presenting a list of projects it wants to include in a potential May 9 bond election. The committee will present its proposal to the Montgomery County Commissioner's Court Feb. 23 for possible approval.

The proposal will include details on how much Montgomery County will ask voters to pay for the projects, Road Bond Committee co-chair Nelda Luce Blair said.

Precinct 3 Commissioner James Noack said the county would likely ask the voters for about $400 million in the road bond.

Montgomery County Judge Craig Doyal said Precinct 1 priorities include the widening of FM 1097. In Precinct 2, he said the Fish Creek Thoroughfare and McCaleb Road widening from Hwy. 105 to the Harris County line could be potential bond projects. Doyal said the priority for District 3 includes the Rayford Road corridor in south Montgomery County.

"In District 4, it's a toss up between the overpass at [Hwy.] 242 and widening of [Hwy.] 105 E.," Doyal said. "Either one of those projects has very high priority."

Blair said the projects that could be included in the bond has yet to be completed.

"While we made much progress by our original goal of early February, we still have work to do to complete the list," Blair said. "So we are now looking to hit the ground running with public presentations by the end of February. We are very excited to bring the final ideas to the public, and the committee already has a crowded calendar of public presentations."

One goal of the RBC is to encourage voters to pass the road bond in May, Blair said. The RBC aims to inform the public about the need to advance mobility within Montgomery County.

Public RBC meetings are held at the city of Conroe Council Chambers, Conroe City Hall, 300 West Davis, Conroe. For more information about the meetings and dates, visit www.keepmontgomerycountymoving.com

"Public meeting dates and times will be posted on our website, and we hope people who are tired of traffic congestion will come out to hear what they can do about it," Blair said.
