Sauces and dressings are made in-house, and produce is hand cut.His attention to detail and community presence are what set him apart from most burger restaurants, he said."I don't look at places like Sonic and Dairy Queen as competitors," Corso said. "We do fresh products, and were community-focused."In the past two years Moonies Burger House has catered events for Relay For Life, the Rotary Club of Pflugerville and Pflugerville ISD, Corso said.Moonies began in Cedar Park in late 2005. Each of the four locations has since received new owners with Corso taking ownership of the Pflugerville location in 2012.Corso said he has expanded the menu to include more specialty burgers such as the Southern Comfort, a pulled-pork-topped hamburger. Some specialty burgers, such as the Texan, became instant favorites among Moonies customers, he said. It is now a fixture on the menu.In recent years the restaurant has added a toasted butter bun, a wheat bun and Texas toast, Corso said. The restaurant is also experimenting with a gluten-free bun, he said.Corso introduced a burger creation center after he started running the business. Customers can choose from a variety of toppings, sauces and buns to make their own burgers, and as many as three patties can be ordered for one burger.Corso said the restaurant is in the midst of renovation. The interior is being painted and remodeled and will be receiving new signage."Six months from now we will be looking like a brand-new place," he said.Corso has been in the restaurant industry since high school and graduated from culinary school, he said. Corso said he gained experience in the restaurant business working as an executive chef and in other roles for the corporation that owns such national chains as Chilis and Macaroni Grill.He said having the financial knowledge to run a restaurant makes him more likely to open another type of restaurant."All the fees and permits that go into doing this is amazing," he said. "Those were things I really wasn't exposed to [in previous restaurant stints], but its been a heck of a learning curve."Corso said he hopes Moonies Burger House is the first of many restaurant concepts he gets to own and operate. He said he has thought about splitting some of the Moonies square footage into a separate venture, such as an Italian pizza and sub sandwich restaurant."Everything Ive done in my career has led up to being able to do something on my own," he said.15803 Windermere Drive, Pflugerville, 512-670-7631,
