Two Georgetown businesses were honored by the Texas Downtown Association on Nov. 7.

Shelly Hargrove, Georgetown Main Street Program manager, said it was the first time the city had two award winners in one year.

All Things Kids was named the Best Downtown Business and El Monumento was named Best New Construction at the 2013 Texas Downtown Association Presidents Awards Program, which honors projects, events and people making a difference in Texas downtowns.

"I'm just overwhelmed," said All Things Kids co-owner Karen Soeffker. "The whole point was to bring people to downtown, which is why we created a concept rather than a toy store."

All Things Kids was also the people's choice winner in the Best Downtown Business category, which recognizes "an exceptional downtown business that positively promotes the downtown or commercial district as a destination for locals and tourists alike, and actively participates in the revitalization efforts and supports downtown promotional events."

El Monumento, which opened in October 2012, won for Best New Construction because of its design and its role in linking downtown to the San Gabriel River, according to the news release.
