Lost Creek Aquatics at Lakeway short-course season
Every lane at the Lakeway Swim Center was filled during Lost Creek Aquatics at Lakeway's Sept. 3 opening day for the short-course competitive swim season.
Based in the Westlake area under Director Steve Jones, the Lakeway branch is led by head coach Janet Risser along with assistant coaches Brendan Hansen and Jackson Wilcox. Hansen is a six-time Olympic medalist, and Wilcox was a distance swimmer for the University of Texas swimming and diving team.
In 2013, the swim program expanded with a team in the Steiner Ranch area led by head coach Kay Gerken.
Annual hot air balloon event
About a dozen hot-air balloons took off from Mansfield Dam Park on Aug. 3 for the 23rd Annual Lake Travis Hot Air Balloon Flight. The balloons became airborne around sunrise and traveled over Lake Travis.
Silverado facility ground breaking
This newest Silverado site is expected to open in spring 2014, Silverado spokeswoman Angela Meluski said.
Meluski said the project, located at 14058 Bee Cave Parkway, is estimated to provide 100 temporary construction jobs and bring up to 100 permanent jobs to the community.
