In the Republican primary race for the District 47 state representative seat, incumbent Paul Workman maintained the lead established in unofficial voting returns through the night.

Workman received 66.85 percent of the votes with early voting and all 41 precincts reporting, according to the Travis County Elections Department.

Workman was first elected in 2010. He has been in commercial construction for more than 37 years and is the founder of Austin-based Workman Commercial Construction Services.

Downton is an attorney who has served as General Counsel to the Texas State House of Representatives to work with the Committee on Technology and Economic Development and the House Committee on Redistricting.

A Democrat, Chris Frandsen, ran unopposed in the May 29 primary. He will face off against Workman in November.
