Phillip Boutwell and Byron McDaniel are expected to retain their seats on the Hutto ISD board of trustees, according to final unofficial election results May 12.

The unofficial results showed Boutwell with 33.27 percent of the vote and McDaniel had 32.56 percent of a total of 562 votes.

Boutwell and McDaniel were two of five candidates vying for the two open seats on the Hutto ISD school board. Selica Granderson was also on the ballot, but announced she had withdrawn earlier in the race.

This will be McDaniel's third term on the board of trustees, and he said the voter support for his re-election is an indicator that people support the work of the school board.

"With all the tough decisions we are having to make [due to cuts in state funding], this makes me feel like voters think we are doing a good job," he said.

Boutwell has been on the school board for four years.

"[The vote] shows people see we are trying to be forthright and transparent and take community input in our decision-making," he said.

Shamra Brown, Tate Lee Sellers and Stephen R. Konze Jr. also ran for the open positions. Konze trailed the incumbents with 14.59 percent of the votes.

Canvassing of the votes is scheduled for May 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Hutto ISD Administration Building Board Room located at 200 College Street.
