The city of New Braunfels announced Thursday that Jordan Matney will serve as an assistant city manager. She will begin employment March 25.

As one of two assistant city managers in New Braunfels, Matney will have supervisory responsibility for public works, planning and community development, the New Braunfels Regional Airport and the city secretary’s office.

“After an extensive search, we found Jordan Matney in Live Oak, where she has been assistant city manager for the past five years," New Braunfels City Manager Robert Camareno said in a city news release. "Her qualifications and experience make her a great fit for our organization. Jordan brings talent, love of public service and tenacity, which will serve her well in her role."

According to the news release, Matney began her career as a public servant with the city of Fort Worth after obtaining her bachelor’s degree from the University of North Texas. She then moved to Portland, Texas, where she served as the city's superintendent of recreation/interim director. She next joined the city of Live Oak as the economic and community development manager and expanded her experience during the past five years as assistant city manager. She obtained her Master of Public Administration from Texas A&M Corpus Christi in 2013.

As assistant city manager in Live Oak, Matney has responsibility for economic and community development, code enforcement, the municipal court and recreation. She led the city’s efforts to develop Live Oak’s new 112-acre town center and was instrumental to the recruitment of IKEA.

“What really sold me on Jordan was her passion for community and for local government. She convinced me that not only is she talented and experienced, but she will continue our efforts toward excellence in serving the citizens of New Braunfels,” Camareno said.

Matney is president of the Texas City Management Association Region 8 and a member of the International City/County Management Association, Texas Economic Development Council and the American Planning Association.
