Vanderbilt University officials announced Dec. 4 that University of Chicago Provost Daniel Diermeier will be the ninth chancellor of the university. Diermeier replaces Nicholas S. Zeppos, who stepped down in August after more than a decade in the position.

Interim Chancellor Susan R. Wente will remain in the position until Diermeier begins his term July 1, according to Bruce R. Evans, the Vanderbilt University board of trustees chairman. Wente will serve as one of Diermeier's advisers in her ongoing role as provost and vice chancellor for academic affairs. 615-322-1813. www.vanderbilt.edu/chancellor
