The total includes 287 deaths, 1,435 cumulative hospitalizations and 8,881 recovered patients. More than 302,000 tests have been conducted statewide.
During a press briefing May 11, TDH Commissioner Dr. Lisa Piercey said residents should not develop a false sense of confidence if they have tested negative for the coronavirus already. She said any residents experiencing symptoms, such as shortness of breath and fever, should get another test at one of the state's free testing sites.
Piercey also cautioned that it is not yet known if humans can develop an immunity to the virus, leaving open the possibility of reinfection.
