Statewide coronavirus cases now total more than 14,000. (Community Impact staff)

The number of cases of coronavirus in Tennessee has risen to 14,441 as of May, according to the Tennessee Department of Health.

This marks an increase of 345 new cases reported since the day prior.


The latest totals include 241 deaths, 1,299 cumulative hospitalizations and 7,011 recovered patients.

More than 243,000 tests have been conducted statewide, according to the TDH.

TDH Commissioner Dr. Lisa Piercey said in a May 7 briefing that the state expects numbers to continue to rise following efforts to test prison populations and nursing homes statewide.
