Metro Nashville to test tornado sirens Oct. 15

The Office of Emergency Management will test Metro Nashville's tornado siren system Tuesday, Oct. 15.

The siren test begins at noon and will last approximately one minute, according to the OEM. The test is not connected to the department's regular siren testing, which occurs monthly of the first Saturday.

If the siren lasts three minutes, the OEM recommends residents check local media to ensure there are no active tornado warnings.

The testing is part of the OEM's $1.9 million upgrade to the county's tornado siren system, according to the department. Once completed, only sirens located inside the warned area will sound, as opposed to all sirens county-wide.
