Parnassus Books celebrates 7-year anniversary, what's closed on Veterans Day and more

While Veterans Day was officially Sunday, the holiday is widely observed Monday, Nov. 12. Today, with most government offices and local schools closed, you may have the chance to attend the Nashville Veterans Day Parade — an annual event that brings together participants from all military branches — along Broadway from 14th Avenue to Third Avenue at 11 a.m. Although most stores are open normal business hours, banks, schools and more are closed. Parnassus Books celebrates 7th anniversary in Green Hills

When: Tuesday, Nov. 13, 5:30-7 p.m.

Where: 3900 Hillsboro Pike, Nashville

Drop by Parnassus Books Tuesday as the shop celebrates its seven-year anniversary, as well as the publication of Nashville: Scenes From The New American South. The release is the debut collection by photographer Heidi Ross, with accompanying text written by Parnassus' own Ann Patchett. Both will be on hand to sign books. There will also be champagne and light snacks.

Limited-edition prints of photographs from the book will be on display and for sale, and half of proceeds will be donated to the American Civil Liberties Union.

37 Degrees Sth kicks off anniversary week Monday

When: Monday-Sunday, Nov. 12-18

Where: 6000 TN-100, Nashville

Also in anniversary news: To commemorate one year of business, Belle Meade's 37 Degrees Sth is hosting a week-long celebration beginning Monday. See the full anniversary schedule on RoverToday.com.

The Australian-style cafe, which shares a shopping complex with 360 Bistro, Juice Bar and other retailers, serves coffee, gourmet sandwiches, salads and a weekend brunch. 

Bill Gaither Homecoming Christmas Concert at Lipscomb University

When: Friday, Nov. 17, 7-10 p.m.

Where: Allen Arena at Lipscomb, 4021 Granny White Pike, Nashville

Join Bill Gaither and friends for a Homecoming Christmas Concert at Lipscomb University’s Allen Arena. The event will kick-off this year’s holiday season with performances by the Gaither Vocal Band, The Martins, Buddy Greene, Charlotte Ritchie, Gene McDonald and Kevin Williams. Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald meet-and-greet at Regal Green Hills

When: Nov. 15-17, 6 p.m.; Nov. 18, 12 p.m.

Where: 3815 Green Hills Village Drive, Nashville

Witches and wizards: During the premiere weekend of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald, stop by Regal Green Hills Stadium 16 to meet and greet your favorite characters from J. K. Rowling's Harry Potter universe. Nashville cosplayer group The Music City Order Of Witchcraft And Wizardry will be in the lobby for photos Thursday-Sunday.

Ramen Otaku Cookbook Release Party

When: Tuesday, Nov. 13, 7-10 p.m.

Where: 1104 Division St., Nashville

Join chef and author Sarah Gavigan, owner of Nashville ramen shop Otaku Ramen, as she celebrates her debut cookbook, Ramen Otaku: Mastering Ramen at Home. The evening will be a mix of ramen fans and home chefs, with drink specials, ramen shooters and other activities.

The Beach Boys with special guest John Stamos at The Ryman

When: Wednesday and Thursday, Nov. 14-15, 7:30-10:30 p.m.

Where: Ryman Auditorium, 116 5th Ave. N, Nashville

The Beach Boys — sans Brian Wilson — headline two shows at the Ryman this week and will bring along actor and musician John Stamos. The Beach Boys have collaborated with Stamos on occasion since the group appeared on an episode of Full House in 1988. Tickets are available for both shows.
