While residents may see fireworks stands setting up around the county in anticipation of the 4th of July, city officials are sending out annual reminders that the use of fireworks is not permitted inside the city limits.

Both Brentwood and Franklin prohibit the use of personal fireworks in neighborhoods or parks due to the risk of fire or personal injury.

According to the cities, this includes, but is not limited to, the use of bottle rockets, Roman candles, sparklers, smoke bombs and any other fireworks with flammable compounds. Sky lanterns are also prohibited.

In Franklin, the illegal use of fireworks was responsible for two house fires in 2020, according to the city.

Franklin and Brentwood will both host Independence Day celebrations where residents can watch fireworks displays. Franklin will host its annual Franklin on the Fourth event, which ends with a fireworks show at The Park at Harlinsdale Farm, and Brentwood will host the July 4th Fireworks Celebration with live music and a fireworks display in Crockett Park.
